Training Ride

As its my first triathlon on Sunday, I need to get a bit of practice in, so today I thought I would do a 15-20k ride and try a brick session.
I set off, after I settled down, it was a nice ride, nothing too strenuous. Weather was a bit overcast but ok. At my halfway point, I stopped at my daughters for a cuppa and the rain started. I actually don't mind cycling in the rain as long as its not on my way to work, I hate to sit in wet clothes all day. So off I went, the rain got heavier and heavier, until it was bouncing off the road and the puddles were nearly road width. Apart from one lunatic, who was overtaking and coming straight at me, there were no problems. That is, until I was turning into my close, right at the end of my ride. Where the close meets the main road there was a rut, as this was under a puddle I didn't see it and quite frankly didn't even know it was there. But BANG down I went, I bruised and scraped my left leg, not too badly as thankfully, I had my mountain bike trousers on. I jarred my shoulder which now hurts to move, totally destroyed my left glove as I slid along the road, reopened the scraping on my arm from Sunday and added a bit more to it.
My poor bike, front tyre totally flat, as you would expect. I have had to take it to the bike shop for repair, as believe it or not, I have no idea how to change a tyre, let along repair a puncture. (its on my to do learning list). They will check out if I have buckled my front wheel as well.
In the end I managed 19.71 km in just over an hour (excluding my break), no brick session though. Apart from the pain in my shoulder and arm, I am still laughing. But, those darn pedals are coming off and my basic pedals are going back on. At some time in the future, when I have some padding, I may try them again, but for now, no way!
