This was the year I was going to finally get fit and yes, I have been successful. To think that last year I could walk as long as it was flat and I got out of breath just walking upstairs. I am pleased with all I have achieved, it's been really hard at times but I have stuck it out and completed every goal I have set. I have completed one event every month since March and even two or three in some months. Some have been easy and some have been really hard.
Some of the highlights for me:
I have learnt to swim and managed to swim 400 meters in open water.
I can cycle with confidence, at one point doing 22 mph. My hardest ride was to Blackpool, it was such a long climb to start and then with the wind at the end, it was painful to cycle to the finish.
My first triathlon, a sprint, running/walking the 5k at the end was so hard.
My best run the 10k Loch Ness, I did a personal best and managed to run a lot of it.
Lowlights, well they are injuries and best forgotten.
I couldn't have managed all this without the kick start at The Camp last October, then accepting a challenge at work and being a member of Warrington Triathlon Club. The best bit is, I have enjoyed it all and I am actually disappointed that the this years events are over. It's interesting when I meet new people, they cannot believe I have done all this at 56 years of age without a sporting background. They say there is no way they could do it, I tell them if I can do it, so can you, all you need are goals and ambitions.
But now is the time to start working on next years events with training, training, training. I have already entered for some events next year and it will be interesting to see how much my times will have improved. I really would like to do the Ironman 70.3, so I need to get stuck in - lol.
