Arrived and parked up on Sefton Park, it was raining, but more like a misty rain. I couldn't decide whether to put my jacket on or take a chance in my t shirt. Eventually, as I was cold I put my jacket on. This was a 5k and 10k race, the pink numbers were for 10k and the yellow numbers for 5k. The first 4k of the course was the same, then the 5k peeled off and returned while the 10k went on to circumnavigate the park.
I started near the back of the group and just decided to try for a gentle run/jog and see how far I could go. I was really pleased with myself, I managed to keep going for nearly 3k. At this point I was really dry and didn't have any water with me. I then went on to jog and walk. I was thrilled when I passed the 5k marker in 38 mins. I finally manged to fill up with water, but by now my legs were just not working. My left leg kept twitching and my right felt almost dead.
I ended up really hot and regretted putting my jacket on, it was now tied round my waist. I really tried to run the last 2k, but couldn't manage it, I did manage to run the last 1k, very slowly. As I crossed the finish line my leg gave way on me and I struggled to walk to the medals. Only had medium t shirts left, but I can just about squeeze into it - lol. My final time 1:21:35 a personal best for me.Once again Liverpool has done us proud, great venue, great goodie bag and medals, and a big thank you to all the marshalls.
